Modern Problems, Timeless Solutions from Maharishi Ayurveda
MODERN
PROBLEM #1
Caffeine blues: As research on the effects of coffee continues, scientists
generally agree that too much coffee can do nothing but harm. In a
study of over 900 women who gave birth in a Quebec hospital, three
cups of coffee with caffeine daily were seen to increase the damage
done to the unborn baby. Researchers also say that men who drink more
than six cups of coffee a day are almost twice as likely to die of
coronary heart disease as more moderate imbibers.
Even
if you are not an extreme coffee drinker, caffeine can cause side
effects like jitters, anxiety, panic attacks, loss of appetite, queasiness,
diarrhea, and frequent urination. Prolonged use may cause palpitations
of the heart, tachycardia (rapid heart beat), or insomnia.
AYURVEDIC
SOLUTION
The
cup that really cheers: Maharishi Ayurveda has the perfect answer
to your caffeine blues, and it's called Raja's
Cup. A refreshing beverage, Raja's Cup tastes much like coffee-in
a blind test, respondents couldn't tell it wasn't regular coffee!
- The
drink is made from healing herbs like Clearing Nut, Kasmard, Licorice
and Winter Cherry (Ashwagandha), which have wonderful healing properties.
- Grain-free,
Raja's Cup is a potent antioxidant to boot, several hundred times
more powerful as a free-radical scavenger as vitamin C or E.
MODERN
PROBLEM #2
The alarming sleep-flab link: Researchers recently reported an interesting
finding: the quality of men's sleep decreases with age along with
the body's production of growth hormone. The drop in growth hormone,
in turn, is thought to lead to flab. What's more, by the age of 45,
a man is said to have lost nearly all his ability to fall into deep
sleep.
AYURVEDIC
SOLUTION
While ayurveda does not comment on the link between lack of sleep
and fat build-up, it does have some excellent suggestions on how to
get a good night's rest. Some helpful tips from The Council of Maharishi Ayurveda Physicians:
- Try
to have dinner at least 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. This gives the
body time to digest food.
- Don't
engage in mentally strenuous activities or intensive exercise late
in the evening. Exertion interferes with good sleep.
- A
warm bath or shower a half-hour before bedtime helps you sleep better.
- Apply
a small quantity of Maharishi Ayurveda's Rejuvenation
Massage Oil on the hands and feet just before you curl up for
the night. This simple step will remove stress from your nerves,
improve circulation, and help you get deep, restful sleep.
- Seek
the help of time-tested herbs like Indian Valerian, Muskroot, and
Winter Cherry: you'll find these and other healing herbs in Maharishi
Ayurveda's Blissful Sleep formula, which has been carefully
designed to help you gently achieve a more restful quality of sleep
without being habit-forming. Customers who have taken Blissful Sleep
report waking up feeling fresh and filled with energy after a restful
night.

PROBLEM #3
Teen skin eruptions: Western medicine blames teen skin problems on
hormone surges. Androgens (male hormones) are said to rise in young
peoples' bodies-even girls, at this time. This flurry of hormonal
activity is said to trigger sebaceous glands into action-which in
turn causes pore-clogging sebum, and hence, those unsightly eruptions.
AYURVEDIC
SOLUTION
Ayurveda believes that the later teen years are governed by the Pitta dosha or the fire element. Aggravation of Pitta can trigger skin
eruptions. Therefore, the best way to keep your skin smooth and trouble-free
is to work toward pacifying the fiery Pitta dosha. Some basics:
Avoid very spicy, salty, greasy, pungent or sour foods.
- Drink
plenty of water.
- Eat
lots of sweet, juicy fruits.
- In
warm weather, wear light clothes and stay in cool environs.
- Bathe
regularly, and maintain good general personal hygiene.
- Drink Pitta Tea,
made from cardamom, licorice, ginger, cinnamon, and organic rose
petals. Combined in precise proportions, these ingredients help
cool you down in body and mind. What's more, the tea tastes delicious!
- Spice
your meals with the goodness of Pitta
Churna, the ingredients in which-including coriander, fennel,
cumin, turbinado sugar, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon and
salt-are blended to calm the Pitta dosha while enhancing the flavor
of your food.
