This simple, nourishing hot drink makes a great remedy and preventative preparation for joint and bone health. Turmeric—Ayurveda’s golden superfood spice—has warming properties that help bring Vata and Kapha back to balance—as an excess is associated with dry, stiff joints or swollen, heavy joints, respectively. Turmeric contains curcumin, a flavonoid which supports a healthy inflammatory response already within a normal range. Enjoy this calcium-rich, bone-building beverage before bed, or anytime as a routine ritual for optimal health.

Turmeric Milk

Serves 1

1 cup organic whole cow’s milk
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
Optional: raw honey to taste

Directions
  1. Gently warm the milk in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  2. Bring to a boil, and then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer for a couple minutes.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the turmeric.
  4. When comfortably warm to the touch (not hot)*, add the optional honey.
  5. Pour into your favorite mug, sip, and savor!
  6. *According to Ayurveda, heating honey to high temperatures renders it toxic. Add honey only to gently warmed beverages, or after your beverage has come down to a comfortable drinking temperature.
Taste Notes
Creamy, slightly bitter, warm spice, and sweet with optional honey.
