Daily ayurvedic self-massage (abhyanga)
Key Benefit
Daily self-massage calms the mind and tones the muscles and skin
In Ayurveda, the practice of self-massage with warm oil is traditionally used to:
• Calm and soothe the mind and nervous system
•Promote stamina and alertness throughout the day
•Supports a deeper sleep at night
•Promote self-love
You can also use this oil for nasya (the Ayurvedic practice of applying oil inside the nostrils) and oil pulling (the traditional practice of “swishing” sesame oil in the mouth and gums).
Organic cured sesamum indicum (sesame) oil.
Start your day with self-care! Traditionally, sesame oil is used for three daily practices in Ayurveda:
1. Abhyanga, or Ayurvedic self-massage. Give yourself a daily abhyanga to increase circulation, loosen toxins and stimulate nerve endings. Self-massage creates a sense of calm that you’ll carry throughout the day.
2. Nasya, or lubricating the nasal passages with oil. Apply a few drops of oil on the inside of each nostril and gently sniff, to soothe and protect your nose and sinuses.
3. Oil Pulling. Gently swish 1 Tbsp. of sesame oil in your mouth for two minutes to promote healthy gums and teeth. Do not swallow. Rinse the mouth with warm water afterwards.
How to Do Abhyanga
Put some oil in a smaller, plastic squeeze bottle. Warm it to slightly above body temperature by placing the bottle into a larger container of hot water for a few minutes. Apply a small amount of warm oil to your hands and start by massaging the scalp briskly. Use the palms of your hands, rather than your fingertips. Massage a small amount of oil onto the rest of your body, using long strokes over your bones and circular motions over the joints. Follow up with a warm shower or bath.
SAFETY NOTE: All oils are highly flammable. Be sure to observe proper safety precautions. Clothing, linens, towels, etc. that have absorbed oil should be laundered immediately, thoroughly and with special attention. Storing oily towels can result in spontaneous combustion/fire hazard. Automatic drying can overheat the oil residue in cloth and create a fire hazard. If machine drying, use low heat and remove as soon as dry.

Because sesame oil has naturally warming properties, Pitta types may prefer to use coconut oil in summer.

I enjoy this oil very much and so does my skin. Unlike some other oils that leave you feeling greasy this seems to soak into my skin leaving it soft and happy. Would really like it if the producer of the product would put something on the top of the bottle which word allow the oil to dispense onto your skin in an easier fashion then having to tip the whole bottle over into your hand and hope that you don’t spill it. Just a little piece of plastic like you find on the top of a lemon or lime juice bottle would be very helpful

I bought a couple bottles of this oil for friends who are expecting for the first time and I wanted them to have a high-quality organic cured sesame oil to do at-home self-massages postpartum and also infant massages. It was difficult to find an organic sesame oil that had already been cured, but that was a must for me because I didn't want these new moms to have to bother with curing the oil just to do a home massage. Really thrilled to have found this oil.
